HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 3 TOTTERDOWN UNITED 0
By Andrew Myland
On a crisp afternoon at Arnall Drive in perfect conditions for football, H&R produced a disciplined display of football and took their chances when it mattered.
Totterdown started strongly, retaining the ball and probing at the H&R back three, but didn’t manage to test returning goalkeeper Jordan Dunning in the H&R goal. H&R took the lead on 10 minutes when Sam Bailey cleverly sent Tommy Collins away who finished superbly past Ashley Martin by slotting the ball into the corner of the net. H&R were now on top and just a minute later Bailey himself nearly caught Martin out with a header. On 18 minutes Dunning made a good save with his legs after Totterdown’s Ollie Lovell got around George James to force the save. The game then opened up and was end to end but neither goalkeeper was particularly busy, nearing half time Matt Harrsion drove the ball just over the crossbar after some neat play by the H&R midfield on the edge of the box, however, the score remained 1-0 at the interval.
H&R started the second half strongly after some changes to their formation and Bailey should have down better on 48 minutes after being superbly played in my Harrison. On 60 minutes Totterdown’s Carter was shown his second yellow of the day to reduce them to 10 men, H&R took advantage of this and on 65 minutes Martin did very well to punch the ball clear from a H&R corner only to see it land at the feet of Nick Jones who smashed the ball first time into the top corner from 30 yards out with his right foot. H&R were now in full control and it was a matter of how many they could get, Harvey Moran should have scored on 66 minutes but Martin turned the ball around the post and then on 68 minutes Collins had his header cleared off the line, Moran did get his goal on 71 minutes when Harrison sent him through one on one and he rolled the ball into the corner of the net to make it 3-0. H&R were guilty in the last 15 minutes of missing a number of presentable chances to increase their lead, however, it was job down by then as H&R picked up their second league win of the season.

TEWKESBURY TOWN 1 HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 0
Tewkesbury Town secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over visitors Henbury & Rockleaze, but made heavy work for the win, struggling to break down a resolute defence for much of the afternoon. The game started slowly, with both teams cancelling each other out. Tewkesbury struggled to find any attacking rhythm, finding a well-drilled Henbury & Rockleaze defence difficult to penetrate. The opening 45 minutes were a cagey affair, with the visitors' disciplined shape limiting the hosts to half-chances, meaning neither goalkeeper was seriously tested before the half-time whistle. The breakthrough finally came in the second half. A long ball over the top of the Henbury & Rockleaze back line caused a moment of defensive confusion. Harry Trett in the visitor’s goal rushed out but
failed to clear, leaving the net exposed for Jamie Goodwin to react quickest. Goodwin showed excellent composure, coolly slotting the ball home to put Tewkesbury ahead. Tewkesbury's task was significantly eased shortly after taking the lead when the visitors lost their composure. A reckless tackle on Alex Roder resulted in a straight red card for a Henbury & Rockleaze player. Tensions then flared further, and the opposition were reduced to nine players temporarily when another man was sent to the sin bin. With the numerical advantage, Tewkesbury expertly managed the remainder of the game. They controlled possession, utilised the extra space, and professionally saw out a narrow but ultimately deserved victory against a frustrated and short-handed Henbury & Rockleaze side.

HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 3 STOKE GIFFORD SGS UNITED 0
On a warm autumnal afternoon at Arnall Drive Henbury & Rockleaze gained their first win of the season against a youthful Stoke Gifford SGS United side. Gifford started strongly and looked dangerous with plenty of pace in the side, but they failed to create any clear-cut chances with this early pressure, and the first big chance fell to H&R, Jordan Rogers turning the SGS back line only to see keeper Jack Sheppard turn the ball round the post. H&R weren’t to be denied however when Drew Sawdon scored with a diving header from the resultant corner. On 24 minutes H&R’s Sam Bailey drove just over after good footwork Tasman Rook and Tommy Collins. Two minutes later Bailey got through the defence again but was up-ended by Tauren Williams for a penalty which Rogers stepped up for but Sheppard made a good save and the follow up was dealt with by his defence.
On 32 minutes Cam Tarr had a header well saved by Sheppard but the same player did score right on half time, driving past Sheppard from six yards after a scramble from another set piece. The second half started quite slowly, however, there was an almighty scramble in the 54th minute where Rogers, Collins and Sawdon all should have scored but good keeping and defending thwarted each effort. On 68 minutes an audacious 35-yard effort from Collins was well dealt with by Sheppard and on 75 minutes he turned another Tarr header onto the crossbar. H&R were assured of the points when substitute George James superbly flicked the ball over Sheppard from a tight angle in the last minute. Three points for H&R by 3-0, and although SGS didn’t create an awful lot they did play their part in a good County League game.

GREYFRIARS ATHLETIC 1 HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 7
Finally saw the lads get the result that the performances deserved. Generally, in all of the league games so far, they have played very well and dominated the matches, only for inspired goalkeeping or lacklustre finishing to thwart our efforts to get that first win. It was perhaps inevitable that at some point we'd have a game in which all our chances flew in, and unfortunately for Greyfriars, they were the victim to this devastating performance. The tone was set early on, with both Webby and Tommy looking lively up front, and both going close only to be denied by the 'keeper. You could have been forgiven for thinking, 'oh here we go again', but it wasn't long before a perfectly
weighted through ball from Fraser was collected by Bailey who slid home. As the lads celebrated, the relief was palpable, and they never looked back. Goals would follow, with a rare brace from Tasman, before screamers from Buckett (30yds, top corner, oh go on then), Harrison and Rhys Iles put the result out of doubt. There was time too for Matt Harrison to grab his brace, with a long range free-kick eluding everyone to crash in at the back post.& Greyfriars grabbed a late consolation goal, despite a top drawer reaction save from Alex Durrani in goal (deputising for the absent Trett), before the game ebbed away with Henbury & Rockleaze running out deserved 7-1 winners.

HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 0 FRAMPTON UNITED 2
At Arnall Drive on a pitch that is becoming greener by the day a well-drilled cup holders Frampton United were worthy winners against Henbury and Rockleaze. On only four minutes Frampton thought they had scored when Turner tapped in but, the Referee blew for a foul on Harry Trett. On 10 minutes Parker was well placed but shot high and wide. Frampton deservedly took the lead on 24 minutes when substitute Tyler Jaggers smashed the ball home after H&R failed to clear. On 35
minutes H&R had their first real sight on goal when Drew Sawdon headed narrowly wide from Nick Jones cross. Frampton started the second half strongly and hit the post through Churchley on 50 minutes, and it took just another 10 minutes for them to get their second when Theo Browne cooly slotted past Trett from inside the box. H&R huffed and puffed but apart from a dipping volley from Fraser Butt which was brilliantly saved by Tom Kaye they didn’t create anything of note and Frampton progress to round two by 2-0.

HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 0 SHARPNESS 1
After weeks of hot weather there was a stark contrast in wet and breezy conditions at Arnall Drive for Henbury & Rockleaze against Sharpness, and unfortunately both H&R’s finishing and luck in front of goal didn’t change. H&R started the stronger, but Sharpness edged the first half overall, H&R saw lots of possession in the first 10 minutes without creating any clear cut chances. Sharpness scored the games only goal on 18 minutes when James Tainton strode through the middle of the defence and dispatched his effort past Harry Trett. On 25 minutes Sharks Kieran Bennett struck a volley just wide from the edge of the box and on 29 minutes Trett made his only real save of the game, turning round the post Michael Bryant’s vicious effort. On 34 minutes both teams were reduced to ten, H&R’s Cam Tarr for pulling down his man, and Sharks Kieran Bennett for a headbutt. This sparked H&R into action and Harvey Moran hit the crossbar
right on half time with a dipping effort from the corner of the box.
The second half was one-way traffic but H&R couldn’t find the equaliser. On 47 minutes Rhys Iles had an attempt well saved by Sharks keeper Pete Dykes and on 61 minutes Nick Jones drive from the edge of the area sailed narrowly wide. On 62 minutes Dykes made a superb save from a Drew Sawdon header and five minutes later Sam Bailey’s 25 yard effort struck the post with Dykes for once well beaten. H&R kept pushing and on 79 minutes thought they had equalised when Iles close range shot looked goal bound only for that man Dykes to make a miracle save! The final act of the game saw Tommy Collins’ effort from distance deflect just wide of the post. Despite being down to nine, from a sin-binning, Sharpness saw out the last few minutes to take the three points 1-0 and join Frampton at the top.

HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 0 FRAMPTON UNITED 1
A bright afternoon at Arnall Drive saw Frampton United visit Henbury & Rockleaze who had a frustrating afternoon. In the very first minute Harvey Moran lobbed Tom Kaye in the Frampton goal only to see the ball hit the hard ground and bounce over the top. Drew Sawdon had a good fourth minute chance from a corner but couldn’t direct the ball goalwards. On 37 minutes Sawdon had another presentable chance from Nick Jones cross but the ball went narrowly over. A few minutes later a switch from Jones to Moran saw Kaye make a superb save turning the ball round the post. From the resulting corner Sawdon’s header struck the bar, and the ball bounced along the goal-line allowing Frampton to clear.
H&R started the second half in the same vein, and on 51 minutes George James should have done better with a header from Moran’s cross. In the next minute Moran went clear but a good save from Kaye kept the scores level. In the 56th minute Frampton had their first real chance when substitute George Parker fired straight at Harry Trett. In the 75th minute Frampton threw the sucker punch when Parker stole in and fired a left wing cross past Trett for 1-0. Frampton were now in the driving seat with Jackson striking the foot of the post. Frampton saw out the remaining minutes to ensure that they took the three points back up the M5.

HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 1 BROMLEY HEATH UNITED 1
On an extremely hot afternoon at Arnall Drive Henbury & Rockleaze shared the points with Bromley Heath United in a cagey affair. H&R started strongly and Harvey Moran maybe should have done better after ghosting past full back Cripps was one-on-one with Will Ferguson but was caught in two minds and fired high and wide. Moran had another shot on 5 minutes narrowly over after good work by Drew Sawdon and Tommy Collins. The remainder of the half was end to end without any clear cut chances until the 45th minute, firstly, Cam Tarr should have done better when heading wide from Marcus Williams corner, then deep into time added on Bleran Thaqi swiped
away the legs of a Bromley attacker and Cameron Ford smashed the resultant penalty in for 1-0 to Bromley. The second half started strongly before both teams tired on an energy sapping day. Bromley struck a post on 50 minutes from Jake Millward’s volley with Harry Trett relieved to see the ball back in his arms from the rebound off the post, then H&R went up the other end to equalise, Moran beat his man to get to the by-line before rolling the ball back to Sawdon to tap in for 1-1. Both teams tried to get a winner for the remaining 40 minutes but neither goalkeeper was really troubled and a 1-1 draw was ultimately the right result.

FILTON ATHLETIC 0 HENBURY & ROCKLEAZE 0
Filton Athletic’s first game back at Elm Park against Henbury and Rockleaze was arguably the match of the day. The first big chance of the day fell to Filton, Fraser Venables winning a header in midfield finding Kieran Cooper who fired wide of Harry Trett’s goal. Shortly after Venables’ free kick caused Trett a few problems but he cleared for a corner. In the 24th minute H&R’s Kai Elliott cut in from the right and shot over Tom Bradley’s goal, then Cameron Tarr had an effort from distance narrowly over. The home side finished the half
strongly with Cooper playing Dan Payne in who tried to lob Trett who made the save and the same two combined again but Payne couldn’t finish. The second half had both teams cancelling each other out. H&R had a couple of chances Elliott’s shot saved by Bradley and the Tasman Rook was denied by the keeper. On 71 minutes Fraser Venables had a free kick in a good position but Trett saved well, and then Kyle Thomas came on to try and win it, and in the last few minutes Venables found him but he shot straight at Trett. A good game ended 0-0.
